Trainee Awards at 2026 UW Carbone Cancer Center Research Retreat

Former Cancer Biology T32 Trainee Patrick Carney, MD, PhD, received the 1st Place Flash Talk Award at the 2026 UW Carbone Cancer Center Annual Research Retreat. Dr. Carney received his PhD in the laboratory of McArdle Professor Christopher Bradfield. Now a General Surgery Resident, Dr. Carney’s Flash Talk described his ongoing research “Cyclin-dependent Kinase 7 (CDK7) Inhibition Is a Novel Therapeutic Target in Fibrolamellar Carcinoma (FLC)” in Dr. Sean Ronnekleiv-Kelly’s laboratory.

Two current Cancer Biology trainees also received recognition at the 2026 UWCCC Research Retreat as recipients of Poster Awards. Kaitlyn Schneider (McNeel laboratory) received the award for her poster “Androgen Receptor Blockade Impairs CD8+ T Cell Activation and Limits Efficacy of AR-Targeted Vaccine in Prostate Cancer Models”. Ruchi Shah (Deming laboratory), also a former Cancer Biology T32 Trainee, presented her research on “Versican Expression and Proteolysis as a Biomarker for CD8+ T Cell Infiltration Across Cancer Types and Molecular Profiles”.

Congratulations to all the Retreat participants!
